Massage is a smart, healthy and drug free option that has helped many people overcome insomnia. There are two main benefits that can have a positive impact on sleep patterns.

Alleviating Stress

Stress is known to have a negative affect on sleep patterns. By decreasing cortisol levels, while increasing serotonin and dopamine you can promote relaxation that will help you sleep better.

Managing Pain & Tension

Pain and sleep loss can exacerbate one another. A lack of sleep can worsen pain, while pain itself can make it difficult to find a comfortable enough position to fall asleep. Successful treatment of pain may improve sleep.

Massage relieves pain by triggering two distinct physiological reactions: mechanical response and relaxation response.

What is the mechanical response?

  • The application of pressure relaxes and normalizes soft tissue, reducing painful contractions and spasms.
  • This in turn releases nerves that can be painfully compressed by inflamed tissue.
  • Improved venous and lymphatic circulation drives more oxygen and nutrients to muscle cells. This reduces inflammation, swelling and tissue damage.

What is the relaxation response?

  • The nervous system reacts to massage by slowing breathing and heart rate, reducing blood pressure and relaxing muscles.
  • This increased parasympathetic activity slows cortisol production (“the stress hormone”) and decreases “fight or flight activity” in the brain.

We’ve all experienced it at some point. Tossing and turning all night. Don’t get stuck in the vicious pain/insomnia cycle. Let us help you find balance in your body again and catch some much needed zzz’s.
